DSLR - Digital SLR Photography (4 x 2.5 hours)

Todays digital single lens reflex (SLR) cameras, now offer us the image quality we have been waiting for, at an affordable price. Along with this comes a magnitude of sophisticated features that allow us to reach new levels of creativity and image control. Unfortunately these cameras are far more complex and confusing than their film based ancestors.

This course will set you on the path of understanding your digital SLR and getting the most from it. We will cover technical issues such as; image size & resolution, camera controls and functions, manual and automatic shooting modes, exposure fundamentals, focusing, white balance, color parameters, ISO sensitivity, understanding histograms, the benefits of camera RAW; as well as creative controls including; depth of field, focal length, manual exposure, metering options and proper use of flash. Included in the course is a outdoor shoot with coaching at a picturesque local location. Please bring your digital SLR (with fresh battery charge), and owners manual if you have one, to each class.

Prerequisite: No prerequisite but you will need a digital SLR camera

CDSLR - Creative Digital SLR Photography (3 x 2.5 hours)

This inspiring course, ideal for those who are familiar with their digital SLR (single lens reflex) camera but just want to capture more compelling images, introduces you to important elements of composition and lighting that can be used in all photographs to help strengthen them visually. We will look at various examples of compositional tricks and techniques as well as tips on how to work with light and on-camera flash, both indoor and outdoor.

The course includes a short shooting assignment and outdoor shoot with coaching at a picturesque local location. Please bring your digital SLR (with fresh battery charge), and owners manual if you have one, to each class.

Class Size: Minimum 3 and Maximum 5
Prerequisite: Digital SLR Photography or equivalent knowledge of operating your SLR camera and navigating a PC.
Prices: $125 + HST for 3 x 2.5 hour sessions.

SLW - Studio and Portrait Lighting Workshop (2.5 hours)

If you are unhappy with the unnatractive look of your portrait images shot with on-camera flash, this course is for you. You will learn about the benefits of off-camera lighting using simple lighting setups and reflectors as well as good posing techniques. Demonstrations and a hands-on practical shooting session with a studio model will be supported by technical hand-outs for future reference.

Class Size: Minimum 4 / Maximum 5
Prerequisite: Knowledge of operating your camera.

WSPW - Wireless Speedlight Photography Workshop (2 hours)
What is Wireless Speedlight Photography? Basically it is remote controlled synchronized lighting with a combination of on and off-camera portable flash units. This latest and greatest trend in lighting technique is a much cheaper, more portable, and versatile alternative to using bulky, awkward and expensive corded studio strobes. You can catch the buzz at this amazing website: www.strobist.com This workshop is recommended for Canon or Nikon shooters who own at least one portable flash unit, covers all you need to know to get started with wireless or multiple speedlight setups. Also covered are some basic lighting techniques and tricks to make your speedlight photography more effective.

FCW - Fall Colors Workshop for all Cameras (1 x 2 hours plus 1 x 2.5 hours)

This inspiring course, is for those who are already familiar with the operation of their camera but just want to capture more compelling images. Elements of composition will be covered with an emphasis on making the most of fall colors. Class one will focus on elements of composition and tricks and techniques to strengthen your photographs as well as tips on how to deal with natural light and enhance color. Class two will be a hands-on field shoot at an interesting local location with coaching by Jonathan. Please bring your camera (with fresh battery charge), to each class.

Class Size: Minimum 4 and Maximum 8
Prerequisite: Basic knowledge and familiarity with your camera
Prices: $85 + HST for one 2 hour session & one 2.5 hour session
